Adopt Bronco a Goldendoodle / Mixed dog in Louisville, KY (41418019)

Location:
Louisville, KY
Description:

Bronco is a little over a year old, about 45ish lb Goldendoodle looking for an active home where he can get the activity and energy outlets he needs. He was surrendered to GRRAND as his family was moving and no longer had the yard space he needed to run and play. He needs to be an only pet in the home... no other dogs or cats.He is house-trained and Bronco's past family did not crate him, as he was rarely left home alone by himself. After some time in a temporary foster home, we have found that he can NOT be crated, and will need to go to a home where he can have full run of the home. They said "He slept on the couch or on a blanket in the living room, and sometimes he slept on the floor of their bedroom". Bronco knows some basic commands. "Bronco is a very sweet, Goldendoodle who loves to cuddle, is eager to please, and wants to be your best buddy and companion!! There’s not a mean bone in this dog’s body. He will give you a submissive smile if he thinks you are displeased with him – he is one of the few dogs that will show their top teeth in a silly grin to win you over. In sum, he’ll be your affectionate, fun best friend.Goldendoodles are known to be loyal, intelligent, playful, and sweet natured but they are high energy dogs, so they are not low maintenance . He needs someone who wants an exercise partner. Walking and even running him every day is important (3.5- 4 miles daily average). 90% of the time he walks beautifully at heel and 10% of the time, he wants to pounce at the squirrels and birds. He loves to ride in the car and he’s generally calm in public so he’s a good travel companion. He's good with other dogs, but needs to be the only dog in the home, and cannot be in a home with a cat. This guy has been through a lot, and he has exhibited some resource guarding of his person with other dogs in the home. He needs calm, gentle, and firm guidance to perform at his best. At a year, he only recently learned the seven common commands (sit, stay, down, off, come, heel and no) and still needs some practice every day to reinforce his learning. He’ll work for affection and treats. He learns very quickly so he's perfect for someone wanting to do an obstacle course. While he sheds very little, his beautiful coat requires regular care with brushing several times a week to avoid mats and 6–8-week haircuts. His people will be rewarded for the effort with a lot of praise on the street because he is a very handsome boy that attracts attention. Once home from his exercise, he’s well behaved and has now learned to stay either sitting or lying down upon command. Because doodles are prone to bloat, Bronco stays on his mat for 30 minutes after his meals with some encouragement. Bronco is not crate trained, but he has been good leaving him for a couple hours at a time. This smart boy has been taught not to go near the exit when the foster is leaving the house, so he doesn’t scratch at the door. He understands the instruction to lay down away from the door and stay but he will backslide if not reinforced. With proper cues, he has learned not to door-dash. He will counter surf for food when left alone but he hardly ever barks. His first family surrendered him at a year which has caused him some insecurity and fear of separation. His favorite place to be is right by your side. He needs someone who can provide him with a consistent routine and structure, so he regains his confidence. For example, he will walk away from his food to check on where you are. Without routine and structure, high energy dogs like Bronco could become destructive. Doodles like Bronco are bred for companionship so he shouldn’t be left alone for long periods of time. Bronco seems most interested in people. In the dog yard, he doesn't show much interest in dogs until other dogs show interest in playing with him. There are a couple dogs he has gotten to know and he loves hanging with them".
